Rox Resort
“When we had the opportunity to bring ESS to Denmark a few years ago, we immediately felt that our entire family of destinations evolved. It's not just about the increased flow of Gammeldansk, but primarily because Danish guests and Denmark have an international aura and that's a feel that we love. Michael Lauritsen, the CEO at Marienlyst, has beautifully guided us forward, aligning with our thoughts on hospitality, activities, meetings, food, and drink. Let's not forget the interior design, which has perfectly matched the Danish guests' desire to experience more. We love Denmark, and that’s why we are proud to announce that we are opening our 15th hotel destination just 20 minutes from Copenhagen, Rox Resort in Køge,” says Jonas Stenberg, CEO of ESS Group.
Køge is a city with just under 40,000 inhabitants, located on the coast of Zealand, 40 km from Copenhagen. Rox Resort is being built right on the beach by the city's marina with a view of the sea. Currently, there are no major hotel resorts on Zealand focused on experiences and proximity to Denmark's capital. The new bridge from Germany also makes the location very interesting. Rox Resort will offer 158 rooms, including 6 suites, 8 meeting rooms, a rooftop pool, an indoor pool club, 2 restaurants, 5 bars, a gym, padel courts, 4 fireplaces, and a playground. The area will also feature padel courts and a courtyard with boules, a football pitch, and a beautiful garden. The prevailing feeling will be, "Let the gentle sway of the waves lull you into a blissful state, encompassed in decor with a colonial touch."
“Rox Resort will be a beachfront resort of international class and a perfect step for us to further approach Europe. We draw inspiration from Marienlyst as well as from what we have created in Sweden over the years, such as Ystad Saltsjöbad, Hotel Pigalle in Gothenburg, and Ellery Beach House in Stockholm. We want to create a welcoming, elegant resort with a feeling of coming home. You will find details from Hong Kong and England in the choice of materials and the overall experience. The rooftop pool and the garden with a sea view are something special, and we hope that the people of Copenhagen and the city of Køge will love it as much as we already do,” says Jonas Stenberg.
Rox Resort is being built to high CO2 impact standards and will become one of Denmark's most energy-efficient resort hotels as it will be connected to the local heating plant, where the primary source is wood waste from a local sawmill. Rox Resort opens in the summer of 2025, and with that, Michael Lauritsen, who is also the CEO of Marienlyst, will take on the role of Country Manager. Carl Hegestad, former Hotel Manager at Ystad Saltsjöbad, will become the CEO of ESS's 15th destination, Rox Resort.
