Rox Resort
A few years ago, when we got the opportunity to bring ESS to Denmark, we immediately felt that our entire family of destinations was evolving. Not just because it now flows more with traditional Danish influence, but above all because Danish guests and Denmark have an international aura and feeling that we love. Michael Lauritsen, CEO of Marienlyst, has graciously shown us the way forward, shaping our own ideas around hospitality, activities, meetings, food, and beverage. Not to mention interior design, which perfectly aligns with Danish guests’ desire to experience more. We love Denmark, and that’s why we are now proud to announce that we are opening our 15th hotel destination just 20 minutes from Copenhagen: Rox Resort in Køge,” says Jonas Stenberg, CEO of ESS Group.
Køge is a town of just under 40,000 inhabitants, located on the coast of Zealand, 40 km from Copenhagen. Rox Resort is being built right on the beach by the town’s marina, with views over the sea. Currently, there are no major hotel resorts on Zealand focused on experiences, and the proximity to Denmark’s capital and the new bridge from Germany makes the location very attractive. Rox Resort will offer 158 rooms, including 6 suites, 8 meeting rooms, a rooftop pool as well as an indoor pool club, 2 restaurants, 5 bars, a gym, padel courts, 4 fireplaces, and a playground. The resort will also feature padel courts and a courtyard with boule, a football field, and a beautiful garden. The overall feeling will be: “Let the gentle sway of the waves lull you into a blissful state, encompassed in decor with a colonial touch.”
“Rox Resort will be a beach resort of international standard and a perfect step for us to move closer to Europe. We draw inspiration from Marienlyst, as well as from what we have created in Sweden over the years, such as Ystad Saltsjöbad, Hotel Pigalle in Gothenburg, and Ellery Beach House in Stockholm. We aim to create a welcoming, elegant resort with a sense of coming home. Guests will find details from Hong Kong and England in the materials and overall experience. The rooftop pool and garden with sea views are something truly special, and our hope is that both the people of Copenhagen and the town of Køge will love it as much as we already do,” says Jonas Stenberg.
Rox Resort is being built to a high standard in terms of CO₂ impact and will become one of Denmark’s most energy-efficient resort hotels, connecting to the local district heating plant, whose primary source is wood waste from a nearby sawmill. Rox Resort will open in summer 2025. Michael Lauritsen, who is also CEO of Marienlyst, will take on the role of Country Manager, and Carl Hegestad, former Hotel Manager of Ystad Saltsjöbad, will become CEO of ESS’s 15th destination, Rox Resort.
